    Groundswell's Art Education Programs Receive Transformative Grant From The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation

    It was recently announced that Groundswell will receive a 3-year, $300,000 grant from The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation. Groundswell has partnered with The Matisse Foundation since 2013. During the 9 years as a grantee, Groundswell was able to serve 10x as many youths compared to years prior to the partnership. The new grant emphasizes the Matisse Foundation’s commitment to the pursuit of excellence in the arts.

    Groundswell, City Council Member Menchaca Celebrate Program Completion With In-Person Exhibition

    In May, Groundswell was thrilled to celebrate the culmination of this year’s school partnership with P.S. 1 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with a special in-person exhibition. Designed by teaching artist Dakotah West, the event included an outdoor installation of student-made dioramas: creative representations of the personal spaces dreamt up during a year of social distancing, increased isolation, and virtually-facilitated arts classes.

    Groundswell Launches COVID-19 Response In Partnership With Arab American Association of New York

    A little over a year later, the world is still attempting to combat the virus and return to some sense of normalcy. Thanks to the support of Council Member Justin Brannan, Groundswell was able to mount a COVID-19 response in partnership with Brooklyn Arab Youth, a youth group at the Arab American Association of New York. The goal of the collaboration was to develop unique poster art focused on COVID-19 related community health and safety measures.
