Groundswell × Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI) Mural Dedication - 10/5/23

In early October 2023, Groundswell partnered with Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI)—a project of the Center for Court Innovation focused on alternatives to incarceration and community-centered justice in Brooklyn—to create and unveil a new mural at BJI’s office space at 25 Willoughby Street in Brooklyn.

The mural was designed collaboratively with BJI staff, program participants, and youth artists in Groundswell’s Community Mural Project, bringing together creative expression with themes of justice, growth, and empowerment.

The project was celebrated with a dedication event on October 5, 2023, where participants, community members, Groundswell teaching artists, and supporters gathered to unveil the finished artwork and recognize the partnership between BJI and Groundswell. The mural now serves as a visual reflection of BJI’s mission—engaging youth in a meaningful creative work that strengthens community connections and expresses shared values through public art.
