In Stewardship of Nature, students from JHS 157 beautified their schoolyard in partnership with The Trust for Public Land. Students reflected on the diversity and beauty found in nature, and the benefits and challenges of living in harmony with the environment. To foster a connection to nature among their peers, they developed images to celebrate the many creatures and habitats found around the globe. They included written messages to encourage eco-friendly behavior and environmental consciousness. Then, they collaged together their images and words and transformed their schoolyard, covering walls and structural columns with vibrant colors and movement. The murals emphasize the possibility of harmonious co-habitation between human, flora, and fauna and depict humans in the larger context of the circle of life and greater nature.
