Jamel Burgess

Jamel Burgess is a community activist and educator from Cypress Hills, East New York. Over the past 10 years, Jamel has worked on organizing campaigns addressing school reform, education policy, and a range of other social justice issues. Jamel received an Associates in Music Production from Queensborough Community College in 2014 and is currently working to complete his Bachelors at The New School with a focus on art and activism as tools for community transformation. 

Over the years Jamel has worked tirelessly to be a solid role model for his community. Burgess feels that although his ‘personal journey in life was rocky’, he uses his past experiences to motivate others. He has a deep-rooted passion for his community, young people and is the true embodiment of a learner.
