  • Lang Public Art Squad

    New School students from Eugene Lang College for Liberal Arts worked with professional artist Conor McGrady to learn about the mural-making process and collectively design and paint a mural for a community-based organization.

  • Rainforest and Butterflies

    Rainforest and Butterflies was designed in partnership with The Trust for Public Land as part of its larger transformation of a vacant lot at PS 78 into a new community playground.

  • Social Traps

    The students created the mural as an anti-gun violence advertisement for the high school walls. The students researched ways to prevent gun violence, shared personal stories, and created the mural to address these pressing issues.

  • Space Adventure

    The "Space Adventure" mural was created as part of The Trust for Public Lands renovation of PS 7s playground. This murals theme is directly driven by PS 7s motto: Everyone is a Star.

  • Nature Adventure

    "Nature Adventure" transforms the playground walls of PS 176 into a wondrous nature adventure, encouraging the school childrens imaginations to flourish and expand.

  • Star Polishers

    "Star Polishers" was created by two 5th grade classes and frames the entrance to PS 506 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The students read and discussed the poem The Star Polisher by Leah Becks.

  • Brooklyn High School of the Arts Band Room Mural

    "Band Room Mural" features a blend of jazzy musical imagery and Brooklyn iconography. It is a celebration of music appreciation, created for a new band room at Brooklyn High School of the Arts.

  • Peace and Freedom

    Peace and Freedom adds color and life to the walls of the community room at Claremont Neighborhood Center. This serene mural was created by formerly incarcerated Justice Corps youth.

  • Connectivity

    Connectivity is featured at the entrance of PS 506 and was created by two fifth grade classes. The mural focuses on the ideas of global community, technology, and journalism.

  • Uplifting

    "Uplifting" was created in partnership with Turning Point in order to transform the walls of Claremont Community Center. The theme for this mural is reaching for the stars, finding the path to success, and following one’s goals.

  • Growth and Change

    "Growth and Change" is featured in the courtyard of MS 210 in Ozone Park, Queens. The mural was painted by fifty sixth and seventh grade Advanced Art students and spans 70 feet.

  • Family Totems

    “Family Totems” was created by groups of students at The Urban Assembly School of Music and Art and their parents. The parents and children studied animal symbolism and imagery at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and then created an animal symbol, or totem, to represent their families.

  • Action Word Wall

    In spring 2008, Groundswell worked with a group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to create a mural for PS 261 in Boerum Hill. Comprised of action-inspiring words that span the length of the 400-foot wall, the mural explores the importance of communication and cooperation between all members of the community.

  • The Dreamkeepers

    In spring 2008, Groundswell artists worked with PS 24 and its PAZ afterschool program to create a mural for the school’s entrance. The finished mural celebrates the children of PS 24 and presents a vision for their personal growth, both academically and as dreamers.

  • Red Hook Through History

    Red Hook Through History was created by 4th grade students at PS 27, guided by Groundswell artists Conor McGrady and Jonathan Bogarin. The students designed the mural based on research of Red Hook’s history, which is part of the 4th grade curriculum.

  • The Water Cycle

    The Water Cycle was created in the spring of 2008 and is featured on the playground of PS 503 in Brooklyn.
