  • The Four Seasons

    Four Seasons was created in partnership with The Trust for Public Land, by a group of one hundred eighth graders at MS 73 in Maspeth, NY.

  • Eco Nova: Seen and Unseen

    Eco Nova is a large-scale abstraction of form and color. The bold choice of colors and shapes transforms the side entranceway of PS 503, making it a more inviting place for both the students and the residents on the block.

  • Encrucijadas

    In partnership with the Eugene Lang College for Liberal Arts at The New School, Encrucijadas was created by a mural painting class led by Groundswell during the Spring semester of 2008.

  • The Water Cycle

    The Water Cycle was created in the spring of 2008 and is featured on the playground of PS 503 in Brooklyn.

  • Nonviolence

    Nonviolence was created in partnership with Inwood Houses Youth-for-R.E.A.L. afterschool program and the Community Change Institute. The students used a variety of media to grapple with a complex issue that directly impacts their community — violence.

  • Grasslands

    Grasslands was created during a day-long painting event for the community room of the Grasslands Homeless Shelter in Valhalla, New York.

  • A Vision of Growth

    As part of Groundswell’s Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) 2008, artists Alex Pimienta and Jessica Poplawski worked with a team of youth to create a colorful mural celebrating the people, changing communities, and future of Coney Island.

  • One Day

    In the creation of One Day, Groundswell artists collaborated with corporate volunteers from Deloitte to create a mural at the Future Leaders Institute Charter School in Harlem.

  • Action Word Wall

    In spring 2008, Groundswell worked with a group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to create a mural for PS 261 in Boerum Hill. Comprised of action-inspiring words that span the length of the 400-foot wall, the mural explores the importance of communication and cooperation between all members of the community.

  • Don’t Trash NYC Container Project

    Dont Trash NYC is made up of four works of public art, created in partnership with Mos Carting, a local business that collects and recycles building materials in dumpsters throughout New York City.

  • Legacy and Career Visions

    Groundswell worked with Youth For Real to create two murals for PS 33. One team, made up of 3rd to 5th graders, focused their mural on community change. Another team was comprised of 2nd graders who focused on career visions.

  • Beautiful Migration

    Through Groundswells Voices Herd Visionaries program, a team of young women created a large-scale mosaic in response to urban environmental issues.

  • Not One More Death

    Youth participating in Groundswell’s Summer Leadership Institute created a large-scale mural and developed imagery for a community organizing campaign to reclaim neighborhood streets from sustained traffic-related deaths in Downtown Brooklyn.

  • Art Builds Community, Community Creates Change

    As one of six projects in our Summer Leadership Institute, young women participating in Voices Her’d Visionaries painted a monumental mural exploring female empowerment, immigrant rights, and gender equality: a call to end discrimination in all forms.

  • The Four Cornerstones

    Through Groundswells Teen Empowerment Mural Apprenticeship (TEMA) program, youth created a series of public sculptural reliefs for Weeksville Houses in Brooklyn.

    Groundswell artist Mauricio Trenard designed and fabricated 50 plaques for the entrances to Fifth Avenue Committee housing developments in Brooklyn.
