  • Justice Mandala

    Justice Mandala explores restorative justice: the act of seeking solutions that repair, reconcile, and rebuild relationships. A team of young artists, including some formerly incarcerated youth, transformed the State Street side of the Brooklyn Detention Complex.

  • Truth Be Sold

    Truth Be Sold was completed by twelve young women led by artists Katie Yamasaki and Menshahat Ebron in partnership with the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation.

  • Connectivity Continued

    A group of eight young women worked with professional artists Crystal Bruno and Tanya Albrigtsen-Frable to create a colorful mural at the front entrance of PS 506 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

  • The Guest House

    Ten Rikers Island inmates created a large mural based on the poem The Guest House by Rumi on the wall of the Eric M. Taylor Center at Rikers Island.

  • Yes She Can!

    "Yes She Can!" is a mural that celebrates the relationship between the Bronx community and its environment. This mural proudly and boldly displays the words, “You do not have to move out of your neighborhood to live in a better one.”

  • Space Adventure

    The "Space Adventure" mural was created as part of The Trust for Public Lands renovation of PS 7s playground. This murals theme is directly driven by PS 7s motto: Everyone is a Star.

  • This is Newark (North Ward)

    "This is Newark (North Ward)" was created by four teenagers ranging from 17 to 18 years old as part of a larger initiative in which Groundswell worked with the City of Newark to train its artists, businesses, and community organizations in our unique collaborative model.

  • Nature Adventure

    "Nature Adventure" transforms the playground walls of PS 176 into a wondrous nature adventure, encouraging the school childrens imaginations to flourish and expand.

  • Brooklyn High School of the Arts Band Room Mural

    "Band Room Mural" features a blend of jazzy musical imagery and Brooklyn iconography. It is a celebration of music appreciation, created for a new band room at Brooklyn High School of the Arts.

  • India Street Murals

    Groundswell worked with City Councilmember David Yassky's office and the Open Space Alliance to create six murals by selected artists on India Street.

  • I Have a Dream

    "I Have a Dream" graces the walls of the computer room in the NYC Housing Authority Chelsea Elliot Houses. This mural project began in 2008 as a class at The New School, primary aim was to research the history of public art and to design and create a work of public art in New York.

  • This Too Shall Pass

    This Too Shall Pass focuses on the dreams, wishes, and aspirations of the inmates at Rikers Island. The large mural was created in two sections by 18 incarcerated teenagers and adds color and adds color and beauty to a hallway in the jail.

  • Bridging the Gap

    Bridging the Gap is a mural that highlights the importance of bridging the gap between community elders and youth as illustrated by different activities and services offered by Baileys Cafe.

  • Incarcerated Minds

    In the spring of 2008, Groundswell partnered with the New York City Department of Correction to create “Incarcerated Minds,” a mural designed by students at the Austin H. MacCormick Island Academy High School on Rikers Island Correctional Facility.

  • One Day

    In the creation of One Day, Groundswell artists collaborated with corporate volunteers from Deloitte to create a mural at the Future Leaders Institute Charter School in Harlem.

  • The Dreamkeepers

    In spring 2008, Groundswell artists worked with PS 24 and its PAZ afterschool program to create a mural for the school’s entrance. The finished mural celebrates the children of PS 24 and presents a vision for their personal growth, both academically and as dreamers.
